A good observation →
I read through two and a half trades worth of the Walking Dead before I realized that even extremely well-written soul-sucking shit is still soul-sucking shit.
The link is to a Boing Boing article entitled “Walking Dead 17: It’s Grim.” I admit I haven’t read or seen “The Walking Dead” largely because of what this quote gets at. I don’t particularly like blood and guts to begin with, but nihilism tends to wear me down fairly quickly. (Which, I confess, is why I’ve never made a serious attempt to get into “Breaking Bad” and several other modern TV shows that I have no doubt are really as good as I’m told they are. It’s not that I demand happy endings, but as Stephen King said — I’m badly paraphrasing, I’m sure — writing about darkness lets you make the light shine more brightly.)
